From the Director, December 2022

Every year for the past several years, Orange County Library System has been a member of OverDrive’s One Million Checkout Club. That means our customers used OverDrive to check out more than a million ebooks and audiobooks in a year. We’re on track to be part of the club again – in fact, we’re on track to far surpass one million checkouts for 2022. So we’ve decided to set a goal for ourselves.
As you hopefully read in last month’s issue, the library system turns 100 in 2023. We thought it would be cool to try to reach 1,923,000 checkouts this year, to highlight the fact that we first opened our doors in 1923. To hit this goal, we need your help!
If you enjoy reading ebooks or listening to audiobooks, check something out through OverDrive’s Libby app this month. Even if you think you’re too busy to sit down and read, download an audiobook to listen to while you’re in the car or doing work around the house. Libby even has your favorite magazines. Every checkout counts!
If you haven’t tried Libby yet, download it to your phone or tablet, check out a title and give it a try. Libby makes it easy to take advantage of the thousands of digital titles we have in our catalog, and you can read on your phone through the app, or download the title to the device of your choice. If you’re not sure where to find ebooks and audiobooks on our website, scan the QR code below to browse titles on our website now. You can also download the app quickly and easily to your Apple or Android device.
Once we reach 1,923,000 checkouts, we’ll pick one lucky customer who checked out a digital title through Libby to win a Lenovo Tablet Tab M8 HD. We’ll announce the winner at our 100 Year Celebration Kickoff, which takes place at the Orlando Public Library on January 7, 2023. You don’t have to attend to be entered to win – we’ll reach out to the winner via email. All you have to do is take advantage of one of the best digital perks your library card offers.
