What are the changes to physical item renewal?

Beginning Monday, May 2, 2022, Orange County Library System began automatically renewing borrowed books, movies, and more that are in physical format! This allows you to keep your checked out materials longer and decreases the likelihood of late fees since any items eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed three days before their due date. Digital materials will continue to circulate as they have been and automatically return at the end of the checkout period.

In addition, the total number of possible renewals per item was increased from three to five. 

Please note, library books and other materials cannot be renewed if:

• Someone else has requested it
• The item is a DVD Vault New Release title (these are not renewable)
• The item has been renewed the maximum of five times
• Your library card is no longer in good standing (for example: there are exceeding fines or your account has expired)
