Southwest Branch 30th Anniversary - Celebrate With Us!

My name is Sara Gonzalez, and I am honored to be the Branch Manager at your Southwest Branch Library. The Southwest Branch staff and I are so excited to invite you to our branch’s 30th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, March 30, 10:15 a.m. We have many interesting events scheduled for our friends of all ages, much of which will celebrate the rich history of our location.

In February of 1989, the Southwest Branch Library opened its doors to the public. Located in the historic Dr. Phillips community, the Southwest Branch’s building is owned by the Dr. Phillips Foundation and is leased to OCLS. Della Drive, the road that the library is located on, is named after Dr. P. Phillips’ wife, Della. You can learn more about the Dr. Phillips family at our presentation, Della’s Roses, hosted by the authors of the book of the same name.

We have provided a variety of services to meet the desires of our dynamic community. From early literacy programs for babies and young children, to homeschool group programs, technology classes, knitting, crochet and fiber arts classes, meditation, stress buster art and our Smarter Senior Series, we truly have something for everyone.

I would be remiss to discuss our services without thanking the dedicated teen and adult volunteers who help us with a variety of tasks, including making our branch a welcoming and community-minded environment for our customers. In addition to wonderful programs, you can find books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers and more at our location. We also offer computer, Wi-Fi and printer access. Our helpful staff are happy to assist you with your information search.

On March 30, join us in celebrating throughout the day, starting at 10:15 a.m. with the renowned JiggleMan, then enjoy our Music in the Library series with pianist and vocalist, JJ Speights, crafts and games for children, an interactive scavenger hunt and a tai chi program for teens and adults.

I am proud of our staff who continue to model our mission and vision in all that they do. We truly change lives at the Southwest Branch. Thank you for letting us be part of your lives for the past 30 years.
