Macmillan Publishers Changes to E-book Access

Macmillan has a made a change that will impact wait times for e-books.

Beginning November 1, 2019, Macmillan Publishers (including all of their imprints) will be changing their terms of sale to public libraries for e-books. Macmillan will allow public libraries to purchase only one copy of each new e-book title for the first eight weeks after a book’s release.

How does this work? For example, Nora Robert’s new book The Rise of Magicks is due to be released on 11/25/2019. On that day the Library will only be able to purchase one single copy of the e-book. We will not be allowed to purchase any more copies to meet demand until eight weeks later (1/20/2020).

This embargo is for the e-book format only. OCLS will still be able to buy multiple copies of the physical format and the digital audiobook to offer on a title’s release date.
