2023 Alafaya Bookmark Design Contest - markers, colored pencils, a drawing compass, a protractor and hand drawn bookmarks arranged on a brown paper background

School’s out, and Orange County Library System is celebrating summer in a number of ways. Starting June 3, our annual summer program called Summer at Your Library will be in full swing. We’re excited about our theme this year – All Together Now: Kindness, Friendship, and Unity – and the activities we offer for all ages. The Alafaya Branch is delighted to host their second annual Bookmark Design Contest, an opportunity for kids to share their art with the community and win some prizes.

What is the 2023 Alafaya Bookmark Design Contest?

The Bookmark Design Contest gives kids an opportunity to show off their creativity and artistic talents, get involved in Summer at Your Library, and express what kindness, friendship, and unity mean to them. On the entry form, children ages 0–18 can design a bookmark they think embodies the Summer at Your Library theme All Together Now. Library staff will vote on their favorites, and copies of the winning bookmarks will be given out at Alafaya Branch during July. We can’t wait to see what amazing designs your children come up with!

How can my child participate?

Entry forms are available for pickup at the Alafaya Branch during regular business hours from now until Sunday, July 2. Space is provided on the entry form to design and color a bookmark. Once finished, you or your child can complete the form and turn it in at the Alafaya Branch customer service desk. A library card in good standing is required to enter and only one entry per child is allowed. The entry period closes Sunday, July 2, 6 p.m.

Submissions will be sorted into four age categories: 0–5, 6–8, 9–12 and 13–18. After the entry period closes, Alafaya Branch staff will vote on their favorites in each age category to decide the winners. Starting Tuesday, July 11, copies of the four winning bookmarks with the winner’s first name and age will be distributed in the Alafaya Branch until the end of July. Winners will be contacted via the phone number on their library account with information on how to receive their prizes.
