Hiawassee Branch 10th Anniversary

Hiawassee Branch Anniversary Header-01

Hi! My name is Ken Gibert and I am honored to serve as manager of Hiawassee Branch for the last 18 years. The staff and I are pleased to invite you to Hiawassee Branch on the 10th Anniversary celebration at our current location on Saturday, January 11, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. We will have many interactive and fun events for our customers such as Music in the Library, face painting and balloon animals, a performance for children and families, and a raffle for prizes, among other engaging activities.

Hiawassee Branch began as a bookmobile station in 1962 and was first known as Pine Hills Library in 1974. In 1990, we moved and became West Colonial Branch, and in March 2000, we moved again and became Hiawassee Branch. In January 2010, Hiawassee Branch moved to our current home near the corner of Hiawassee Road and West Colonial Drive in the Highland Lakes Shopping Center. We have the pleasure of serving the culturally diverse areas of the western portion of Orlando that includes Pine Hills, Orlo Vista, and the surrounding communities.

We provide many services to our community. Besides the traditional services of offering books to read, events at Hiawassee include weekly storytimes for children, technology classes in both English and Haitian-Creole, a monthly book club, a weekly class on improving one’s English, a family program every Tuesday evening, and an amazing array of other regularly scheduled programs designed to help you learn, grow, connect.

In addition to events, classes, books, DVDs, Wi-Fi, databases, magazines, and audio books, we also have a public computer area and a classroom dedicated to technology education and equipped with software to help you learn more than forty languages. Lastly, we have a meeting room able to accommodate 70 people that is available for card holders to reserve for a nominal fee.

The Hiawassee staff is focused on changing the lives of every customer we serve in positive and meaningful ways. Every customer is our hero and we are proud to serve you. Thank you for allowing Hiawassee to serve you as a branch location for 45 years and we look forward to allowing us to celebrate you for 10 years at out current location. We would be honored to see you on Saturday, January 11.
